A Sunday Rollercoaster ride
So I landed in Dallas on Monday, got my luggage, took the escalator downstairs to catch the shuttle to pick up my rental car and was hit by a wall of 102 degree weather as soon as I walked outside. This made me instantly appreciate the weather back home in Southern California. I got on the shuttle and was welcomed to Texas by Shania Twain which was the ring tone of the woman sitting next to me.
After discovering that the Dallas airport is a city of its own, I got lost on the way to the hotel. The next morning, I got lost on the way to the golf course for a practice round and got lost on my way to the gym after that. Sure enough, that evening I got a little turned around again on my way back to the hotel. I'll admit that I am not the best at directions but the road system here completely baffled me.
So Friday rolls around and the weather had actually cooled down to the low 80's. I shot 75 that day which put me in a tie for 87th place. I feel that I played well but just had one hole that gave me some trouble.
It takes a lot of self motivation when you are out here on your own.
After being confident in my pre-swing routine, I hit my 4 iron on the par 3 hole #6. I look up and it was headed left. It hit the top of the mound left of the green and I watched it kick dead left out of bounds. I hit another 4 iron that landed short, couldn't get up and down and made triple bogey. Of course I was a little upset but I pulled myself together and played great for the rest of the way in.
Can you do the math?
The next two days I played well. I shot 70 on Saturday which moved me up to 42nd place and had a rollercoaster of a round on Sunday but still came in with a 71 which put me in a tie for 28th place. If you didn't get a chance to see my scorecard for Sunday, by rollercoaster, I mean I had 6 birdies for the day and only 2 pars on the back nine. You do the math.
Can we transfer birdies?
I am very satisfied with my tournament in Frisco. It's my best finish as a professional so far and I believe I am getting more comfortable being under par which is a big step for me. Let's see if I can keep all those birdies for McAllen this weekend and leave the bogeys in Frisco.
Until next time,
Stay in bounds.

Great job Meg - Stay focused - every tournament / round seems to get better and better. Give us a call when you can. Be SAFE! IS IT HOT IN TEXAS YET?your cajun buddy...........Greg and family
Hey Megan,How are things going? I was surfing the net while waiting in the airport and went through your website. I really like it! Looks like you have a couple events in south and west Texas before heading over to Switzerland? My brother in law is an optometrist and owns and runs an EyeMasters store in McAllen. I will have to give him the dates of your event and have him come out and cheer you on. Not sure when I will see you again, but I still want to get my hands on an authentic Megan Heckeroth autographed Hat. Stay focused on your goal of not just making the LPGA, but becoming one of the top ranked players in the World. You may not realize it until someday in the future, but you are truely blessed to have the opportunity to play golf for a living. Take Care,Darrin
Proud of you!!
Followed your rounds this weekend.
Stay in the zone and focused on your future goals. There is no doubt you can become one of the best female players. Remember always to have FUN playing golf. Good luck in your next tournament. Take care.
your cajun family, the Ougels
it is refreshing to see pros struggling like the rest of us. Rocco's 10 in the final round of the masters was mindblowing but he didn't share with us what went through his mind when it was happening. thx for sharing your pro thoughts when you get a triple in a par 3 or when you nail 6 birdies and only 2 pars in a round.
great site! Good luck.
Hi Megan,
Congrats on your best round as a professional! Get used to shooting under par. If you expect it, it will happen more often.
There are plenty of negative aspects when it comes to traveling, especially alone. I feel your pain.
I have a question for you: There is a lot of talk about which tees we (men and women) play as casual players. I guess I always assumed that female pros play from the "championship tees" or the tips. Is that accurate?
By the way, if you're ever in the Los Angeles area with some time to kill, I'd absolutely love to play a round with you. I'm sure you get all kinds of requests like that and your schedule is way tight, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Thanks for the blogroll!

Kristen,
thx for your support. when I am training, I always play from the men's back tees, especially when I am in a little game with them- their egos can never handle being shorter than a female player from the same tees (hehehe). But on tour, we get a mid-length tee that would be the equivalent of the men's tees for under 10-handicapers.
My summer and early fall schedule is packed with touring and LPGA q-school, but in the winter time Nov-Dec, I'd be happy to play a round with you (btw I too live in L.A.).
So how many strokes will I have to give you?
cheers,
Megan
Great, I look forward to it! My current handicap is 17, but winter's a long time and a lot of rounds away.
